Lviv 2018

My journey to Lviv in 2018 was a captivating experience filled with intriguing contrasts and unforgettable impressions. The city, once a part of Poland, still bore visible traces of its Polish past, etched into its architecture and the overall ambiance. Every step in Lviv unveiled a blend of colorful traditions and a rich, multi-layered history. Even in the evening, differences in the city’s illumination were apparent when compared to Polish cities. The darkness and subtle lights created an atmospheric charm that set Lviv apart.

A visit to the Łyczakowski Polish Cemetery was a moving experience, reminding me of the city’s historical connection to Poland. The site was brimming with history and memory. The people of Lviv continued their daily lives, which still reflected the influence of the past. As I strolled through the streets, I had the chance to observe their customs and engage with the locals, forging a personal connection with the city.

Lviv’s cuisine surprised with its variety and flavors. Local specialties, though occasionally rich, were distinctive and full of character. Trying these dishes was a sensory delight. The iconic trams couldn’t be overlooked, seamlessly woven into the city’s urban landscape. Their presence was not only practical, but also added a unique charm to the city.

Walking the streets of Lviv, I noticed the contrast between my inability to read Cyrillic and the comfort of using Polish, which often proved more useful than English. The city stood out not only for its history but also for its vibrant nightlife and numerous interesting pubs. Sampling local beverages became an integral part of my journey. Visiting the flea market and witnessing the Bandera monument, a figure that stirs controversy, were pivotal moments that deepened my understanding of the complex Polish-Ukrainian relations.

In conclusion, the trip to Lviv was an immersive experience into the past and present of this charming city. From flavors to cultural revelations, all experiences created an unforgettable narrative of a place where history continues to shape everyday life. This journey will forever remain in my memory as a unique encounter with the beauty of a multifaceted history and culture.
